Weengushk Trail Update 2:

The Indigenous Service Canada (ISC) builds have been completed and 2 families have moved into their new homes.

Construction continues on the new phase of our housing development, which includes four 3-bedroom houses and two 4-bedroom houses that are Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) builds.

We're excited for new families to move into the new housing offered at Weengushk Trail and expanding the range of housing options available in the community.

Also happening at Weengushk trail, the Construction program from Employment and Training is getting hands on experience working on unit 111.

A trailer has also been moved to Weengushk Trail and will serve as a 2-bedroom home for a new family.

Weengushk Trail Update 1:

We are very happy to announce that new construction at Weengushk trail is under way with beautiful new housing coming soon!

There will be 15 new houses in total, starting with 6 new builds!

Right now there are 6 foundations going up that are Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) builds. 4 are 3-bedroom houses and 2 are 4-bedrooms houses!

WIFN Housing Department is overseeing the entire project to ensure things are done properly and on time!

There will also be 3 Tiny Home units available soon. These Tiny Home units will serve as temporary, transitional housing units for renters, until they find or receive more suitable housing.

These Tiny Homes will also be added onto to increase square footage and retrofitted to ensure that they are livable and meet building code.

Regarding the Indigenous Services Canada Houses (ISC for short, and formerly known as INAC), there are 2 houses that have been built and are currently in the process of getting finalized with the hopes of getting the renters in there very soon!

This housing development will establish Weengushk trail as the largest development of rental units to offer since Snye Subdivision!

Weengushk trail was started 17 years ago, we know it’s been a long time coming, but we are hard at work making it happen for our community.

Chi-Miigwetch to everyone for their patience as we work to provide adequate housing to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our community members who will be occupying their new residence. Please be on the lookout for flyers when units become available. You will be able to apply once they are posted.
